Manisha
India
Manisha lives in New Delhi in the Arusha home, a hostel run by the Salaam Bank Trust organization. When Manisha was little, her young mother, unable to care for her, dropped her off on the side of the road and abandoned her. A social worker found Manisha and brought her to a convent home in Gurgaon just outside of Delhi.
All of the sisters at the convent home spoke English, and Manisha asked for lessons so she could communicate with them. They taught her by giving her weekly English lessons. Manisha also learned the value of education and how it could help her better herself and her life. When she was 16, Manisha was moved into the Salaam Baalak Trust, where she excelled in her English skills and rose to the top of her class. She is sponsored by Commit2Change, a sponsorship that allowed her to continue her studies at a private secondary high school.

When asked how C2C has helped her, Manisha says, “Because I am living here at Salaam Baalak Trust, I am lucky enough to be sponsored by Commit2Change and take tuition classes. This will give me the opportunity to better myself in the future and attend a good college where I can study business.”
