Drive for 5 is a partnership between the Government of Ireland, the Global Partnership for Education, UN Women, One (One is a campaign, a global movement to end extreme poverty and preventable disease), and Malala Fund. Their goals are 12 years of free quality education, supportive school environments, teacher training, safe journeys to and from school, and to keep girls healthy in the classroom. We’ve come a long way in the last 25 years. There are more girls in school than ever before, but there are still many barriers to overcome. “Many Barriers” includes the gender pay gap which still stands at 20%, and social and institutional barriers that are making it difficult for girls to have careers that have something to do with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
