UNESCO has estimated that around the world, 32 million girls of primary school (elementary school) age and 97 million girls of secondary school (middle school/high school) age are out of school. In total that adds up to 129 million girls worldwide. 129 million girls are not receiving the education that they deserve. Often girls have to walk a long way to school, which increases the risk of violence. A recent study has found that around 60 MILLION girls are sexually assaulted on their way to or at school EVERY YEAR. Teen pregnancies often result in strong stigma towards the girl, and even discrimination. Those things can lead to a girl dropping out of school and not returning. Girls need to go to school and get an education not only so they are able to live on their own and be able to support themselves, but also so they can support their family if they start one. They would be able to have a better future and accomplish their dreams.
